To The Moon and Back / Whimsical Wednesday #44

Since it is Wednesday we have a new Whimsical Wednesday challenge for you over at Whimsical DesignsThis weeks challenge is "Getting Sketchy" and we have a fun sketch for you to try designed by our own - Nanne.

Here is the sketch:

I had a lot of fun designing a card around this sketch. I used papers from Rocket Age by October Afternoon, I just love this line of papers. I cut the rocket and stars with my Cameo from Silhouette Studio files.

For the sentiment I used "I love You to the moon and back from Whimsical Fun - Vol 1, which you can purchase here.

I wanted some dimension, so I popped the rocket ship and stars up with Pop Dots. The moon sticker next to the sentiment is from Reminisce.

I hope you'll try your hand at our sketch this week and link up your card.

You also have one week left to enter the "Time Flies" challenge.

Supplies used: cardstock - kraft, cream. blue, red; patterned papers - Blast Off, Captains Log, All Systems Go, Incoming Transmition, Space Station and Black Hole all from Rocket Age by October Afternoon; rocket and stars cut from Silhouette Studio Files; moon sticker from Robot by Reminisce; sentiment - Whimsical Fun - Vol 1.

For my project I made a frame for my daughters best friend. Her baby shower is actually today. The frame has slits in the back so each month she can insert a picture of the baby. I wanted it to look nice until each month had a picture so I cut out different images from several Cricut cartridges to decorate each photo slot.

I designed the mat on My Cameo. It has twelve 2" X 2" squares for pictures and one 4 1/2" X 4 1/2" square in the middle.

This is the mat after it was cut:

I glued a piece of patterned paper to the back of the mat which had slots cut out above where each 2" X 2" square is, so that a photo can be inserted later. Then I went about cutting different designs and glueing them onto the patterned paper, so it looks cute even if a photo hasn't been placed in it yet.

I inserted the completed mat into a purchased frame from JoAnn's. Then I decorated the frame with cuts from Silhoutte Studio files using my Cameo.

I hope she likes it!

Supplies used: frame - JoAnn's; cardstock - white, 3 shades of pink, yellow, green; patterned papers by American Crafts; New Arrival, Storybook, Sweethearts, and Once Upon A Princess Cricut cartridges; Silhouette Studio Cut files; pearls - American Crafts; brads - Doodlebug and Making Memories; button - Making Memories; twine - my stash.

Now for some blog candy. All you have to do to be entered to win is:

1. Be a follower of my blog
2. Leave a comment on this post with a way to get a hold of you.

Good luck and now your off to see Pam at MzLavr2's thoughts and creations!

Light of my life

As I have told you before, Pinterest has become my second addiction after blogging. It is such a great way to see all kinds of creative ideas, from so many talented people out there on the net. When I came upon this cute idea, I just had to make one. My sweet husband, who IS the light of my life, is ever indulgent in helping me make my craft projects and ideas come true. He helped me, carefully, remove the guts to a lightbulb so that I could make this. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to do it, we used this youtube video. My hubby also drilled a one inch hole in my block so that my lightbulb could sit down in it, as if it was screwed in, rather than setting on top as they did in the Pinterest one. I think it makes it more stable also. If you've seen the one on Pinterest it is on a plain wooden block, but I thought covering the block in some cute Valentine's paper added so much!!!
Supplies used: wood block - Michaels; patterned paper from With Love by Pebbles; light bulb - Home Depot; red wire - JoAnn's; font - BoaScript.

Whooo loves you?

I have another Valentine's Day card to share with you today.  Pretty simple, because you are just cutting the image with Cricut and making a slight alteration.

I cut the owl out at 3 1/2" using the Create A Critter cartridge. the branch was cut at 2 1/2". The owl cut has both eyes closed, but I wanted one open to look like he is winking.  Therefore on the pink layer  I cut out one of the eyes, punched a whole underneath the eyelashes, flipped it around and glued it under the main body (red) layer. I added some machine stitching to the outside for fun.

On the inside of the card I glued a google eye so that it would show through the eye opening on the front of the card , drew on the eyelashes and then added the "I do" glitter letters.

Supplies used: cardstock - kraft, brown, 2 shades of green, 2 shades of pink, red, orange; Create A Critter Cricut cartridge; rub on - October Afternoon; alphabet stickers - Sticko; google eye - Michaels; sewing machine.
